The jasmine initiative
Vision
Through solutions-focused video conversations between unlikely figures, the Jasmine Initiative—a climate education course—empowers South Indian students to reimagine the climate movement as an interdisciplinary issue, framed within the context of wellness, identity, and community.
Student takeaways
By the end of the program, students will:
Understand that climate action is interdisciplinary, not confined to science or activism alone
Gain tools and vocabulary to think critically about sustainability in their lives and career paths
Have the skills to effectively communicate with others (of different backgrounds and perspectives) about complex topics including climate
Be introduced to green career pathways and ways to incorporate sustainability into any field
Build the confidence to see themselves as contributors to climate solutions, both now and in the future
The Jasmine Initiative will provide students with a first glimpse into how their passions can connect to a green job and an interdisciplinary perspective on the climate movement that is applicable in a variety of contexts. For example, students interested in fashion design may begin to consider the environmental impacts of the textile industry and how to align their creative work with sustainability and social responsibility or a student interested in business may begin to examine how concepts such as corporate social responsibility and circular economics can play important roles in how businesses operate in the 21st century.
Structure
The Intersections program is designed to be accessible, engaging, and adaptable for high school settings.
Each day introduces a new angle of the climate movement—connecting it to fields such as business, medicine, agriculture, and more. Videos are 10–15 minutes long and revolve around a driving question that guides discussion. By focusing on diverse voices and stories across different identities, careers, and perspectives, the program underscores the universal relevance of climate action.
After watching the conversation, students will use post-video discussion questions that address the information covered as a springboard to begin to think about how they could apply the information to their lives
